Down and Dirty

So I only got 1200 characters in my “About Me” section and frankly, I deserve way more than 1200 freakin characters so here is everything you did (and didn’t) want to know about me.

I’m a 27 year old retail pharmacist living in Chicago with Mike, my boyfriend of about 2.5 years, and our 3 year old chocolate lab, Bailey.  For the last 3 weeks we’ve had another addition, a 5 month old chocolate lab we named Layla.  She is going to be my mom’s surprise Christmas present, but until then we’re living in 1-bedroom-2-large-dog-chaos complete with poop, pee, and humping.  They’re both females but Bailey had taken quite a liking to humping Layla-Mike looked it up online and apparently that is how they show dominance-whatever, I don’t want to see it.

As I said I work in a retail pharmacy.  Said retail location will never be named nor will any names ever be used.  There are good days and bad working in retail but let’s be honest, you will probably never hear about the good days-you will hear about the bad days, the crazy people, and the absurd questions these people come up with.  I’ll probably devote a whole post to just my retail rants so I won’t go into detail here.

I’m a beauty product junkie.  Ever since I was in about 6th or 7th grade I’ve had an obsession with trying new beauty products.  Shampoos, conditioners, hair products, treatments, face washes, face masks, spot treatments, nail polish, mascara, lip gloss, lipstick, lip balm, lip stain….you get the idea.  From Clearasil to La Mer, I’ve tried a lot.  In the past few years I’ve gotten a lot better at not sinking my money into these crazy things-I’ve found what works and stick with it-but shiny new products at Sephora never fail to catch my eye.

I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t worried about my weight.  I was a pretty chunk-tastic kid and had a crazy growth spurt in 7th grade that propelled me even further above the boys than I was before.  Looking back at pictures I was a stick but I still remember being worried about my size 8, flood jeans.  Shoot, size 8!  I wish I could go back and slap my baggy sweatshirt wearing self across the face!  I’ve learned over the years that diets don’t work and its all about changing your lifestyle and habits.  Well, I have a habit of drinking beers and eating polish sausages during football season so the next few months might be a little hard.  Don’t worry you’ll get to hear all about both my healthy choices and my not so healthy choices!

I love my family.  My younger brother moved to NYC about a year ago but most of the rest of my family is still in the Chicago area.  I can’t remember the last time I talked to my dad.  The little demon that is alcoholism crept its way into his life and it has cost him his career and his family.  Luckily I have the most amazingly strong woman for a mom and she kept our family going even when times were not so easy.  My mom’s side of the family is Greek and although we’re not a replica of my big fat greek wedding, everyone has their own little idiosyncrasies.  Instead of Windex, my Pappou’s cure all is New-Skin. My uncle will text me to change the channel if there is any mention of Greek culture on TV.  We hoot and holler while dancing in lines at weddings.  My Yiayia has a secret Ouzo recipe.  It’s fun.
My other half is Lithuanian.  Bacon and Potatoes rule our lives.  My močiutė could probably name 100 different uses of Crisco.  We like our booze and we’re above average in height.  Good times.

I have a penchant for designer handbags.  Over the years I have moved from Nine West to Coach to my latest indulgence-a Louis Vuitton Tivoli handbag.  I think that is the pinnacle for me, I know Mike hopes so.  My feet are too big for designer shoes and my boobs are too big for designer clothes, a girls gotta find some sort of one size fits all option!

I’ve recently become a major yelper.  I’m a Yelp Elite member-yea, be jealous.  I think that writing reviews on yelp was what provided the segue to full on blog.  I have aspirations to be a foodie-I’m a Top Chef enthusiast and have tons of amazing restaurants at my fingertips-speaking of which, Mike and I just had dinner at Alinea!  7th best restaurant in the world if you didn’t know-check it out and be very, very jealous!  I’m trying to break into cooking as well as eating but I haven’t gotten very far-lots of cookbooks and recipes though!  Last week I took a cooking class with my mom at The Chopping Block in the Merch Mart-tons of fun and picked up a few new techniques while I was there.  A knife skills class may be in my near future…hopefully I can keep all my fingers intact.

So…now I’m a blogger…here goes nothing…

  • >We Midwestern redneck soccer moms can now live vicariously thru this blog. Carry on, Lauren!
