Turkey Burgs and a Drug Store Splurge

I have had one busy week!  Work has been crazy, which has been a little stressful at times, but I love my new job so much more than my old one that I don’t even mind the craziness-it makes the week fly by!  Bootcamp is now in full swing, we’re heading into week 3 tomorrow.  We had our first measurements today after 2 weeks…I was a little disappointed that I only lost 1 lb and 1% body fat, but I did lose 3 inches each in my waist and abs, so I’ll consider that a win.  The most important thing to me is fitting in clothes and feeling good, not about the number on the scale.  I’ve also made some big changes in terms of no boozing whatsoever and making smart choices when I go out to eat-I went to Olive Garden and got salmon and steamed broccoli…yes, at the Olive Garden….that is hugeeeee for me.  So even though the poundage isn’t falling off yet, I’m proud of the choices I’ve made for myself over the past 2 weeks.

We also had a graduation this past week….from puppy class!  How cute is my little grad?!?

In other Ruby news, she also spent her first day in day care at the Barking Lot on Friday.  They have webcams so you can watch through their website, I love it, I could just watch those crazy dogs all day!  They sent her home with a report card….so funny!

Somehow in all this busy-ness I managed to find some time for my drugstore “issue” as I like to call it.  Keep in mind I used to work IN a drugstore EVERYDAY.  It was very easy to find something I just desperately needed on an almost daily basis.  So now that I’m out of the store, I only pop in when I’m out of something….and when I leave I always come out with more than what I needed.  Here’s my take home from this weekend’s trip.

Yea, I splurged.  I bought things I really didn’t need.  But I love new products so much!  I needed some shampoo and conditioner…this new Pantene nature fusion smells awesome, and after trying it, it really makes my hair feel great!  The bioinfusion was on sale and smells like Biolage, which I love…so sale + bulk + yummy smell = winner.  The Neutrogena grapefruit scrub on the left is one of my favs that I already use and love but the green one on the right, for calming red skin is a new one.  What can I say, I’m a sucker for fun packaging/new products.  I’ve been using this this weekend and I might dare to say that I like this one MORE than the grapefruit.  It is a scrub, so its got the beads in there to really exfoliate, but it also has that Noxzema cooling effect on your skin-I’m not sure how much its really decreased my sometimes red face, but I still really like it.  The triple omegas are a supplement we’re taking for bootcamp, but I’ll probably continue with these afterwards to keep my cholesterol at bay in a natural way.  These were on sale, and they were the triple omega formula, no other reason why I picked these.  The Blue Diamond flavored almonds are AWEsome!!  These were buy one get one free so I got one each of my fav flavs…Honey Dijon and Habanero BBQ-so delish and not loaded with sodium.  The Organix keratin spray is a new impulse buy, I straighten my hair most days when I blow dry it so I’m always looking for fun new products that claim to make my hair even smoother and shinier.  I’ve tried some of the Organix shampoos and conditioners and just didn’t like them, I didn’t feel like they adequately conditioned my hair.  I used this spray only once so far but it worked pretty well, my hair was definitely smoother, and stayed smoother, than usual.  I love new products so don’t worry, there will be more posts like this to come 🙂

In other news, I also managed to do some cooking this weekend.  Mike was out all day on Friday at the bars with his friends watching March Madness….so since I was staying in and being booze free and healthy on a Friday night, I decided to make my own version of “bar” food for dinner-homemade Turkey Burgers and Spicy Sweet Potato Fries.

Turkey burgers are sometimes difficult because they’re dry-especially when you use ground turkey breast, they just don’t have the fat that ground beef does.  This isn’t a huge deal for me because I love ketchup and other sauces and just slather them on the patty and can’t even tell its dry.  Here’s what I used:

1 lb ground turkey breast

1 tbsp worcestershire sauce (vegan)

2 tbsp Tastefully Simple Onion Onion seasoning

3-4 pickle slices, diced

~1 tbsp each of ketchup and Arizona heat mustard

1/4 cup Daiya cheddar “cheese” shreds

Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl, I used my hands-meatloaf makin’ style-then form some patties and slap um on the grill-delish!  I absolutely loved these.  I really like oniony burgers so this was right up my alley.  The Daiya “cheese” helped with the dryness and of course, added the cheesiness that I find necessary with burgs.

Along with the burgs, I had some yams sitting around so I tossed them in 1 tbsp of olive oil and 1 tbsp of Tastefully Simple Fiesta Party Dip seasoning for a little spice.  I cooked them on a baking sheet covered in foil at around 375° for about 25 minutes.  The 25 minutes is a guesstimate, as I just watched them and waited until they got nice and crispy.  They turned out delish as well!  The spicy seasoning set off the sweetness and they were just perfect, imho!

Add in some sauteed mushrooms and balsamic glazed onions, with some ketchup and honey mustard dips, and I had my very own bar meal!

One of my other latest food obsessions is Puffin PB cereal-its gluten free and tastes like peanut butter-yum!!  Add in some sliced nanners and I’ve got breakfast!  (Is it just me or do sliced bananas taste way better than whole bananas???)
