Just Juicing: Day 1

I want a cheeseburger!!

Is that what you expected me to say?  Well, I am happy to report that while I did have a few fleeting daydreams of cheeseburgers and sushi, and there was one point when I thought to myself-Ruby is the only one home, and she wouldn’t tell anyone if I had pizza, my first day of juice only wasn’t all that bad.

I was a little nauseous after my breakfast, mid-morning, and lunch juices….kind of the feeling you get when you take a multivitamin and don’t eat any food with it…but I’m feeling ok tonight.  I had a bit of a headache a few hours ago but that has gone away and I’m feeling pretty good and ready for the temptations that lie ahead on Day 2.  I expected to feel kind of crappy the first few days, in the movie and on the website they mention it….but they say it subsides within a couple days after your body gets that initial detox out.




Lunch was a little rough and I couldn’t quite finish all 24 oz.  I think the red pepper was a little too powerful and I got a little tomato pulp so it was a little chunky.  I’m going to lay off the peppers the next couple days and see what I can come up with.  I ordered The Big Book of Juices from Amazon and I am eagerly anticipating its arrival any day now.  I’ve used some of the recipes on the Reboot website for ideas, but I kind of just add stuff as I go.  I’m hoping the recipes can help me incorporate some of the vegetables that aren’t exactly the best tasting into my juices without gagging with every sip.

I’ve gotten mixed reactions from my friends at work when they hear about what I’m doing.  Most are supportive, to varying degrees, mostly they just want to know why I’m doing it…I even got one of them to watch the movie and she ended up buying a juicer too!  One of my friends, however,  just does not get it at all and is protesting my juice fast.  Tomorrow we’re having a team lunch and getting burgers delivered…she was relentless in trying to break me today but I stood strong….sitting in a room with burgers and fries tomorrow should be interesting.

One thing I did notice today was that I was really able to appreciate all the different food smells throughout the day.  I know, obviously I’m only drinking cold juice, everything that isn’t juice is going to smell amazing.  But this was different.  I knew I couldn’t have it so I just really took in all the smells and enjoyed them in a way I don’t think I ever have.  The non-juicing me would just get a whiff of something good and immediately find a way to satisfy the craving that the smell brought on.  But today I stayed strong and didn’t cave in and I was really proud of myself.  I think this whole juicing thing will get me to kind of slow down and enjoy food in a different way than I have before.  Cross your fingers for me on Day 2!
