Just Juicing: Day 3
It’s Day 3 and I have to say I’m feeling pretty good. No nausea, no headaches, and I actually feel like I have a little more energy than usual. I’m trying to figure out if I’m just convincing myself about the energy or if the juice actually is giving me the little boost I’m feeling. I really do think its the juice though. I usually go to bed at 10pm at the latest but the past 2 days I’ve been up past 10, 11 last night, and I’ve got more than enough energy during the day. A woman in the documentary said that she felt sluggish the first few days so I was worried about that….but if I’m feeling good then I’m feeling good!
Breakfast was orange juice….not oranges but the color orange, bright orange!
Cranberries, tangerines, apple, carrot, my standard bit of ginger….it was tart, but very good….really got me going this morning! This juice had a little side effect…orange pee! Yes, my pee had a little tint of orange this morning (hopefully its just the orange color of the fruits and veggies and not my body being mad at me!).
Lunch was just as interesing….bright magenta!
Those red beets really made this juice POP! It tasted pretty good too…not the cold beet soup my Lithuanian grandmother made, full of starchy white potatoes and sour cream, but good nonetheless. I think beets are going to be making future appearances in my juices!
One thing everyone asks is “Aren’t you hungry?” and the answer is no, not at all. Sure I have cravings…like when I drive by Kuma’s Corner everyday on my way home from work and start daydreaming about their Mac ‘n Cheese….but this little juice fast has helped me realize that most of the times when I think I’m hungry, I’m really not. I catch myself getting a craving and since I “know” I can’t have it I’ve been able to step back and ask myself, am I actually hungry right now or do I just want to eat because it smells or looks good? Yea, 9 times out of 10 the answer is that I’m not actually hungry.
I also think that these juices really do keep me full much longer than some of the other foods that I eat. I’ve been adding chia seeds to my morning juice to get a little extra protein but even without that there is a lot of energy packed in those juices. I’ve also been drinking more water than usual to help with the detox, this helps me feel full as well.
One thing I’ve kind of enjoyed is not having to really worry for the past 3 days-no worries about what to cook, what groceries to buy, how many calories I’m eating, feeling bad if I went a little overboard on the chips & salsa. Juicing does take some effort, you do have to have fresh fruits and veggies on hand and then decide how to combine them so the juice is edible. I’ve washed and cut what I can to make the prep process go a little faster. The cleaning of the juicer is the most time consuming part but it has to be done so I just do it and don’t think too much about it. Not having to worry about food has been nice, in the words of Forrest Gump…”that’s good! One less thing”.
Now….time to go figure out what to juice up for dinner.
