Just Juicing: Day 4
Tonight…..I cracked. I dipped into the booty.
Yes, I broke down tonight and ate a handful of Pirate’s Booty Veggie Puffs. Today was the first day that was really tough for me. I felt the crabbiness coming on last night after my dinner juice that just didn’t do it for my palate. The veggie juices have been tough, I thought I’d get used to them and learn to love ’em but it just isn’t happening. If you added a little vodka and spices….well, now we’re talkin’….but this week does not involve alcohol so that ain’t happening.
Although I was choking down my veggie juice, one of the big differences I noticed today was that I didn’t really have any cravings for bad food. No yearning for a McDonald’s cheeseburger or feeling my mouth start watering as I drive by Kuma’s corner. But you know what I was craving? A great big salad. A sweet juicy apple. Totally weird right? But ya know what, that’s one of the many things I was hoping to get out of this week. Retraining my palate.
Earlier this year I read the book The End of Overeating: Taking Control of the Insatiable American Appetite by David Kessler.
This books talks about the 3 ingredients-fat, sugar, and salt-that the food industry combines in different amounts to stimulate us to eat more and crave their foods. Eating more whole foods and fruit and vegetables can help to “reset” our minds so we don’t have as many cravings for the foods that are “hyperpalatable” (and not so good for us). Even though I’m only juicing for a week I was hoping that I could get a mini reset going and I think I’m a little closer to that today. So, even though my latest veggie juice concoction was a little difficult to stomach and I was a bit of a crab today, I’m going to forget about my booty mishap and keep pushing through for the next couple days. On the positive side, I weighed myself at the gym today and I’ve lost 4 lbs, there’s some motivation!
