Chicago’s Table 2012
Last Friday I attended Chicago’s Table, an event sponsored by Chicago Magazine to benefit the Auxiliary Board of Northwestern Memorial Hospital’s work in support of research and therapies for stroke patients. This was the event’s second year and it was again held at the River East Art Center, an absolutely gorgeous venue. High, wood-beamed ceilings, tall white pillars, glass walls, exposed brick-if I was getting married in Chicago this space would definitely be a top contender!
Charity and venue aside, the real draw for me was the line-up of some of Chicago’s best restaurants participating in the event-Acadia, Ada St, Bar Toma, El Ideas, Nellcôte, The Publican, Rustic House, Slurping Turtle, Tavernita, Telegraph, Urban Union, Vera, and Yusho-a seriously impressive list!
We snacked on delicious small bites like veal cheeks from Rustic House that nearly melted in your mouth; sweetbreads from Nellcôte that made you forget about the fact that you were eating sweetbreads; fresh mozzarella from Bar Toma that was hand-rolled with a delicious apple mostarda; butternut squash panna cotta from Acadia that was topped with their very own version of pop rocks; and soy sesame marinated salmon from Slurping Turtle with crispy tortillas that were hand-fired by the Top Chef Master himself, Takashi Yagihashi.
Cupcake Prosecco, wine from City Winery, seasonal beers from Blue Moon, and cocktails from Ketel, Don Julio, Tanqueray, and Bulleit Bourbon flowed freely even after the food was gone. Chicago Mag put on a fantastic event, from the venue to the food to the drinks to the ambiance, and I would definitely attend again next year if they decide to continue the event for a third year!
