‘Tis The Season For Giving

Written by , Posted in Chicago

I absolutely love the holidays. Who doesn’t, right?! Not only do I get to break out all my chunky cable knit sweaters, stuff my face with turkey and pumpkin pie, and listen to Christmas music, but I also get to GIVE a whole bunch of gifts! Obviously I don’t mind the whole receiving gifts part but my favorite part really is the giving. This year I was in luck because I got a chance to kick off the season of giving at little early at my friend Lindsay’s Blogger Clothes Swap. Lindsay writes the blog The Garden Apt and her idea was to get a bunch of bloggers over to her house and everyone brings several items of clothes, jewelry, etc that they no longer want. We arrive, we snack, we sip, we socialize, we find a few items to take home, and the rest gets donated…everybody wins! This gave me a great excuse to clean out my closet and I found way more stuff to bring than I anticipated.

When we arrived Lindsay had mimosas ready and waiting along with two types of quiche, blueberry muffins, and bacon scones. Yum!! After meeting a few new bloggers and catching up with a few old friends, we got down to the business of the clothes swap!

Everyone found a few fun “new” things to bring home and we still ended up having 5 big bags that Lindsay donated to Society of St. Vincent de Paul. I was really happy that we were able to donate so much and it inspired me to keep giving not only throughout the upcoming holiday season, but all year round. There are endless ways to help those in need-whether it is by donating clothing, food, or gifts, or by volunteering at soup kitchens, food pantries, or shelters-just pull up Google and you’ll be sure to find many ways that you can help to make a difference to those in need in your community. A small amount of your time can go miles in brightening the days of others, and it also makes you feel pretty darn good too. ‘Tis the season!
