DAVIDsTEA Spring Collection Giveaway!

Written by , Posted in Giveaway, Shopping

A little over a year ago Mike and I were taking a stroll up Southport with our chocolate lab, Ruby, when we came across the newly opened DAVIDsTEA. I told Mike I wanted to pop in really quickly to grab a cup of tea so he and Ruby hung out on the bench outside. Fast forward 30 minutes and I’m still inside, smelling the 10 different teas that the lovely woman working behind the counter set out for me, and ogling all the super cute tea cups and accessories lining the walls. After a “what the heck are you doing in there” text I wrapped up my visit, but I knew that I was officially hooked on tea and would definitely be back for more!

Since this first visit I’ve been back to DAVIDsTEA many times, both for myself and to buy gifts for others. Their extensive wall of teas can be a bit intimidating at first glance, but all the staff are super friendly and will help you find the perfect tea. DAVIDsTEA always has great gift sets that are beautifully packaged and cute mugs to go along with the season, so it’s really a no-brainer gift option if you know someone who enjoys tea. Some of my favorites are Cream of Earl Grey, The Spice Is Right, Cold 911, and Mother’s Little Helper, but every time I stop in I seem to find a new favorite!

Last month DAVIDsTEA released The Spring Collection – five fresh and exotic teas that are fruity, refreshing, and amazing hot or cold! I’m partial to the Cool Cucumber black tea and the Blue Lagoon herbal tea, but I’d be happy sipping any one of them!

Ready for the exciting news?! DAVIDsTEA has given me a box of these fun new teas to giveaway to one lucky Lion + Maven reader! Enter the Rafflecopter giveaway below by 11:59pm on May 14, 2014 for your chance to win the pretty little box below! US & Canada residents only.

  • Looks like the Willis Tower ‘Ledge’ is going to have to start competing with the Hancock Observatory’s new attraction, Tilt! Would you do this?? I think I’m way too chicken!
  • InStyle’s list of Best Beauty Buys of 2014 is out! From hair to makeup to skincare, they have all your beauty needs covered!
  • Great news for those near the Michigan Ave shopping district – Blaze Pizza is opening their second location at 227 E. Ontario on Monday (tomorrow)! They’re offering free pizza for Facebook fans on Tuesday 4/29, a great excuse to check them out!
  • Women, take note. There’s a new iPhone app called Kitestring that aims to get you from Point A to Point B safely, and inform your emergency contacts if you don’t. It’s obviously not going to scare away a potential attacker, but if you’re walking home late at night by yourself in Chicago, or any city for that matter, it could potentially make a big difference.
  • HBO is promoting their HBO Go service and the new promo ads they’re running are pretty hilarious, in a totally awkward, I’ve so been there before kind of way!

The Art of Pizza – Chicago’s Best Deep Dish Pizza

Written by , Posted in Chicago, Restaurants

If you’re a regular Lion + Maven follower, you should already be well aware that pizza is my all-time favorite food. It has recently come to my attention that I have yet to pay homage to deep dish pizza here on the blog, and as a born-and-raised Chicagoan that’s just a tad bit embarrassing. I’ve tried all the famous spots in Chicago for deep dish-Giordano’s, Lou Malnati’s, Gino’s East, Pequod’s, Bacino’s…but it wasn’t until I first met Mike and he introduced me to The Art of Pizza that I finally found The One. I figured out Mike was The One a few months down the road; The One I’m talking about here is The Art of Pizza– my vote for Chicago’s Best Deep Dish Pizza. The Art of Pizza storefront The Art of Pizza is a small, no frills pizza joint on North Ashland Ave in Lakeview. Blink and you might miss it. What they lack in ambiance they make up for in their delicious deep dish pizza pies. Crafting the perfect slice of deep dish pizza is no easy task-the sauce has to be the perfect balance of sweet and savory, the crust to cheese ratio has to be just right, and the toppings need to be plentiful and tasty. The Art of Pizza handles all 3 of these categories perfectly. You can order The Art for delivery but they also have a small dining room where they offer pizza by the slice. Spinach and mushroom is my by-the-slice go-to while Mike usually prefers one of the meatier varieties. Another winning topping combination: sausage and giardiniera…definitely my favorite if we’re ordering a whole pie. The Art of Pizza dining room The Art of Pizza, Pizza by the Slice

The couple that eats deep dish pizza together stays together, right?! If you have yet to experience the amazingness that is The Art of Pizza I highly suggest you venture over here very soon, for less than $4 a slice you can’t afford NOT to!
