A Night In The Black Forest At Hotel Inselklause
After our stop at the Triberg Waterfall, we checked into our hotel for the night – Hotel Inselklause in Schönwald im Schwarzwald. This hotel was the last hotel I booked, probably only a month or so before our stay, and it ended up being our favorite accommodations of the trip. The hotel had the charming look that we had seen around the German countryside, while still offering updated, modern conveniences within. We arrived to a chilled split of champagne waiting for us in our room along with views of cows grazing in the field out back and trout (that I would later eat for dinner) swimming in the stream below.
After getting settled in we found a seat on their patio to enjoy what was left of the daylight and grab a drink before dinner. Hotel Inselklause also has a fantastic restaurant, so there was no need to venture very far…
That evening the restaurant was having a special tasting menu featuring chocolate, but we opted to order from the regular menu. Their menu changes based on what is seasonally available, and everything we had was fantastic. Along with a bottle of German red wine, we started with a salmon tartare and a chanterelle cream soup with Black Forest ham. We both went with fish for mains, Mike pike perch and me with trout en papillote. As I mentioned previously, they had a stream alongside the hotel and my fish was swimming in it until I placed my order. Not only was the fish cooked beautifully, it was served with some delicious seasonal vegetables in a pesto sauce – simple and perfect. We finished it off with a slice of authentic Black Forest cake because, when in The Black Forest!
The next morning we set out early after enjoying a hearty breakfast at the hotel. We had a very short stay in the Black Forest but our night at Hotel Inselklause made it incredibly memorable. If you’re looking for a relaxing spot with great food in the Black Forest, I can’t recommend Hotel Inselklause enough!
